CSK Playing XI vs DC in IPL 2021 |
CSK Playing XI vs DC in IPL 2021: CSK looks considerably more stable compared to the previous year, with the return of Suresh Raina and the addition of few players at the auctions. However, it has also put them in a Catch-22 situation. Chennai’s biggest headache going into the CSK vs DC game on April 10 would be what will be their “right opening combination”.
IPL 2021 What will be the opening pair for CSK vs DC game?
Chennai would be a happy side as they boast a plethora of opening batsmen. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa and Faf du Plessis fight for the opening pair slots in Chennai playing XI.
Until last year, Shane Watson CSK’s opening mainstay, while his partner kept changing which caused a lot of instability in the top-order. The regular changes made it hard for the openers to settle down in their roles. As a result, CSK’s middle-order got exposed too soon.
Option1 Ruturaj Gaikwad
Gaikwad had a rollercoaster debut IPL. From testing positive for Covid-19 to getting dismissed for a duck on debut, to scoring three consecutive fifties in the final three matches of the season, the young Pune-born had seen it all. Interestingly, his historic successive half-centuries came as an opener. Therefore, it will be likely that he will be one half of CSK’s opening pair.
Option 2 Faf du Plessis
Faf was inarguably CSK’s best batsman last year. The only consistent player in the yellow jersey, he amassed 449 runs with his highest 87 coming as an opener. However, it was at No.3 where the Proteas actually faired well. In the starting three games, he scored impressive 173 runs which included two half-centuries
Option 3 Robin Uthappa
It is this new signing of Chennai this year that has actually spiced up the competition. Uthappa for the majority of his IPL career played as an opener and would love to return to his favourite position. His best as No.1 came in 2014, where he scored 660 runs to help Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) win the IPL title.
CSK will most likely pick the Uthappa-Gaikwad opening combination, with Faf taking the No.3 slot
