One of the biggest tragedies of the year 2020 was the explosion in the Lebanese capital of Beirut. More than 190 people died in this blast. Now a court in the country has registered a case against the care-taker Prime Minister Hassan Diab and three ministers of his government. After the blast in Beirut, the issues of government negligence and corruption that had been going on for years had come before the whole world.
Apart from the PM, a case of negligence has been filed against Finance Minister Ali Hasan Khalil, Ghazi Jeter and Yusuf Fenianos. He said during the investigation that 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate, which had been lying in the port for years, was the cause of this traumatic event. Judge Fadi Sawan had questioned the PM about how long he had known about the explosives while in office and why he did not give instructions to remove it?
Beirut was shaken
In August 2020, the city of Beirut was shaken when there were two consecutive blasts near the port. The explosions were so fast that the land near the port had disappeared. More than 150 people died due to the incident while more than five thousand people were injured. The biggest loss in this was due to the silo present there, due to which there was a risk of grain shortage.
Government had resigned
Lebanon already had an economic crisis, amid which the Corona virus was also wreaking havoc. At the same time, allegations were leveled against the government and corruption. The anger erupted after the blasts in the capital, Beirut, after which several ministers, including the PM, had asked to resign and play the role of caretaker.
The government had fallen
Last year, Hassan’s government came after the massive demolition of the government. There are many technocrats involved in this government and there is support from big parties to Iran but within a year it has also fallen. People who were angry over several issues had aggressively protested at the Beirut Port by the blasts. Government ministries were stoned and clashes with police at several places.

थर्रा गया था बेरूत
अगस्त 2020 में बेरूत शहर उस वक्त थर्रा गया था जब बंदरगाह के पास लगातार दो धमाके हुए थे। ये धमाके इतने तेज थे कि बंदरगाह के पास जमीन ही गायब हो गई थी। 150 से ज्यादा लोगों की मौत घटना के कारण हो गई थी जबकि पांच हजार से ज्यादा लोग घायल हुए थे। इसमें सबसे बड़ा नुकसान वहां मौजूद भंडारग्रह (silo) को हुआ था जिसके कारण अनाज की कमी का खतरा पैदा हो गया था।
सरकार ने दिया था इस्तीफा
लेबनान में पहले से ही आर्थिक संकट था जिसके बीच कोरोना वायरस भी कहर बरपा रहा था। वहीं, सरकार के खिलाफ लचर रवैये और भ्रष्टाचार के आरोप लग रहे थे। राजधानी बेरूत में हुए धमाकों के बाद लोगों का गुस्सा फूट पड़ा जिसके बाद पीएम समेत कई मंत्रियों ने इस्तीफा देकर केयरटेकर की भूमिका निभाने की बात कही थी।
गिर गई थी सरकार
पिछले साल भारी जन आंदोलन के सरकार गिराने के बाद हसन की सरकार आई थी। इस सरकार में कई टेक्नोक्रैट शामिल हैं और बड़ी पार्टियों से लेकर ईरान का भी समर्थन हासिल है लेकिन एक साल के अंदर ही यह भी गिर गई है। कई मुद्दों को लेकर नाराज चल रहे लोगों ने बेरूत पोर्ट पर धमाकों से नाराज होकर आक्रामक विरोध प्रदर्शन किए थे। सरकारी मंत्रालयों पर पत्थरबाजी की गई और कई जगहों पर पुलिस से झड़प भी हुई।
