ODI series between England and South Africa canceled, Corona entered into bio bubble

Captain

The ODI series between England and South Africa has been canceled after the corona spread in the team’s hotel.  Both teams stayed in a luxurious hotel in Captain.  Some members in both teams are also infected.  Two members of the hotel staff have also been hit by the epidemic.  The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) together decided to cancel the series.  Both the boards issued a statement saying that this decision was taken to ensure mental and physical health of the players of both teams.

 The first match of the series was to be played on Friday, but on the morning of the match, a South African player was found positive for Kovid-19, due to which he was postponed till Sunday.  After this, the first ODI was canceled on Sunday, because it was found that two members of the hotel staff are also infected with covid-19.  After this, the England team conducted fresh tests.  Two members of the England team were also found positive for covid-19, although the ECB said it wanted verification of the tests from the independent medical team before deciding on the remaining matches of the tour.

 No time for next tour

Both the ECB and Cricket South Africa were expected to host the remaining two ODIs, but the tour ended with Monday’s announcement.  The ECB and CSA said that they are effectively postponing the series until England finds a suitable time to tour South Africa again to play the match.  The ECB did not provide any information about the status of the two members of its team who were found positive for covid-19 at the end of the week.

 A shameful incident for South African cricket that failed to keep the Cape Town hotel bio safe.  During the tour that began in mid-November, three South African players were found positive and two of them are believed to have entered a bio-safe environment.  A series of three T20 matches were played between these two teams earlier, which England won 3–0.
